Il Etait Une Fois Ventoux 2020

The 2021 Ventoux Il Etait Une Fois is Fondreche’s first vintage to utilize a portion of amphorae for aging the Grenache. What is an amphorae you ask?? It is a long, narrow clay or concrete container with two handles, wider at the top than at the base, that was used in ancient times especially for storing oil or wine.

What does it give the wine?  How about a silky and saturated Grenache notes that is the pinnacle of the expression from the Ventoux region. Deeply layered with flavors of strawberry jam, raspberry compote and dried tobacco, this leans right up to indulgent but never goes over the top.  The palate is full-bodied, plush and supple, with bright acids on the finish. 

This translated, "Once upon a time"   cuvée is made only in exceptional years and comes from very old Grenache vines planted in 1936 and 1938, with dabs of Mourvèdre and Syrah. This great wine from the Rhône Valley reveals an incredible depth based yet still has a remarkable finesse.

Proprietor Sebastien Vincenti is a thoughtful, conscientious vigneron who has proudly converted his estate to being certified organic starting with the 2022 vintage.  While this vintage isn’t certified organic, you know that the winery was well on their way towards that goal.
