In homage to the great Bock Fest held by Schell's Brewery for over 30 years, we are bringing our own version to Eau Claire.
On Saturday, February 17th, from 2pm-6pm, we'll be beer poking at K Point Brewery. We have a batch of Bock we will be tapping for the event. We’re also going to have smoked turkey legs and brats available to nosh on. MMmmm, sweet smokey turkey legs . . .
Who knows the true genesis of beer poking, but in winter climates, gathering around a bonfire for a warm, poked beer revitalizes the spirit. The idea of warming a beer with a hot poker is likely a German creation and there are a handful of breweries in the US keeping the tradition alive.
Because a bock has a higher sugar content to react with the heat, the bock fizzles and froths up a bit and changes the composition. It develops depth in flavor, caramelizing the malt and imparting a smoky character while giving the beer a creamy mouthfeel.
We will have a few fire pits and we will take a rod out of the fire and plunge it into your mug. Dress warm, grab a mug of bock and get poked at K Point!
