La Vizcaína is a project from Raúl Pérez that explores the hillside crus around his hometown of Vatuille de Abajo. These two highly acclaimed and highly reviewed reds are both from single vineyard sites and from vines with over fifty years of average age (some much older).

Perez La Vizcaina La Vitoriana

The La Vitoriana vineyard was planted in the 1890s on red clay and alluvial stones and enjoys various expositions thanks to its curved shape. This is a field blend of Mencia, Bastardo (Trousseau), Doña Blanca and Palomino. It is then fermented whole-cluster in oak vat with a long post-fermentation maceration and then cellared for one year in older 225L and 500L barrels

There are aromas of spicy violets and ground pepper with hints of crushed vivid wild berries and lavender on the palate and a touch of loamy minerality. The fine tannins gently make themselves present on the lengthy and stylish finish. You can drink now or it will be wonderful if cellared for 3-7 years.

Earning an impressive score of 97 points from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, the 2020 La Vizcaina La Vitoriana is a testament to Perez's expertise and dedication. This wine embodies elegance, sophistication, and a true expression of the Bierzo terroir.
